At Quality Picture Scanning we create digital photos. We scan/digitize all pictures -- slides, negatives, film strips, paper prints, oversized prints, 110 film, 126 film, 127 film, APS Negatives, Kodak Disk Film, medium and large format negatives, VHS tapes, Hi-8 tapes, miniDV tapes, 8mm and 16mm movies and books. You'll be thrilled to see and enjoy all your images again on any electronic device--such as your TV, computer, smart phone, or digital picture frame.
You automatically receive high resolution for prints, slides and negatives (depending on the quality of your film). Your individual, standard sized prints are scanned at 600 dpi. You never pay extra for the best resolution and quality! Usually, the higher the dpi, the better your images will look if you choose to get them printed. We will offer our best recommendation for dpi on your images. We use professional Epson scanners with SilverFast, or Nikon 5000 and 9000 scanners, so you'll get jpeg and tiff, both for the same flat price. We also review all of your images in Adobe Photoshop to make adjustments for exposure, color, cropping and perform slight touch-ups.
1. How should I arrange my images for Quality Picture Scanning to produce my digital images? Arrange your slides, negatives or prints by year, topic, location, family name, number, or any organization you choose--and we'll create digital folders with those same name--or we'll arrange your images and assign them a number. In the process of converting slides to digital images, keep your slides in carousels or trays, or rubber band them together in groups of 30-50 slides. Keep negatives in their envelopes or sleeves. Prints can stay in their envelope or loose prints can be placed in ziplock bags. Roughly 100 prints stacked like a deck of cards will equal one inch.
2. How should I clean my images? Never allow water to touch a slide, negative, film or paper print. You can clean the dust off slides, negatives and paper prints with an eyeglass cleaning cloth--no liquid. Also keep fingerprints off slides, negatives and prints.
3. What is the difference between a jpeg and tiff? Jpeg and tiff are common file formats for digital images. Typically, jpeg are smaller file sizes used for viewing or printing, and tiff are larger files for editing and archiving. Tiff file formats will never deteriorate over time. Editing jpeg files over and over can cause them to change. We offer both uncompressed jpeg and tiff file formats, all for the same flat fee per image. It is up to you whether to accept the extra large tiff files.
4. How will I receive my new digital photos? Your new digital photos will be on a flash drive or portable hard drive - which we have here, or you can supply if you prefer. Remember, digital images are very large files and require larger storage capacity. All your own slides, negatives or prints will be returned to you, exactly in the same original condition. Scanning is a pristine process.
5. What is the best way to store my images? Store and keep your original slides, negatives or prints in a box with low light and no moisture. We suggest keeping all originals after scanning. Once your images are digitized, make back-up copies. Digital images will last only for the duration of the media. Hard drives have a lifetime of 5-7 years; DVDs less. Always port your digital images over to your next electronic upgrade.
6. Can I share my new digital images with others? Yes! The real advantage of digital images is that everyone can have an 'original'--that way someone will always have a back-up copy. You can always edit and copy the image files you receive from Quality Picture Scanning. We are your local, professional, picture digitizing service for King, Pierce and Snohomish County and vicinity.
